I think this idea is offensive. Do what you wish, but I think your idea of a "final song" is stupid and a waste of energy.

maybe ur right i really dont know it was just on my mind and i thought id ask. The fact that it will never come into fruition is probably true and in that reguard is a waste of time. I just had the idea and was interested in what others would choose and im glad i did really...... ive met some old forgotten and awesome tracks and learnt some new ones. i never ment any harm by it richard

You need to lighten up a bit.

Here's my entry.

I, for one, will graciously thank my overlords for unknowingly providing the impetus to get an education and thus allowing me to see for myself how small they are compared to everything else that's possible.

FWIW, I also understood your question as a 'desert island' kind of question, Ady.

I would choose Florence and the Machine 'Dog days are over':

Happiness hit her like a train on a track
Coming towards her stuck still no turning back
She hid around corners and she hid under beds
She killed it with kisses and from it she fled
With every bubble she sank with her drink
And washed it away down the kitchen sink

The dog days are over
The dog days are done
The horses are coming
So you better run

Run fast for your mother, run fast for your father
Run for your children, for your sisters and brothers
Leave all your loving, your loving behind
You cant carry it with you if you want to survive

The dog days are over
The dog days are done
Can you hear the horses?
'Cause here they come

And i never wanted anything from you
Except everything you had and what was left after that too, oh
Happiness hit her like a bullet in the head
Struck from a great height by someone who should know better than that

The dog days are over
The dog days are done
Can you hear the horses?
'Cause here they come

Run fast for your mother, run fast for your father
Run for your children, for your sisters and brothers
Leave all your loving, your loving behind
You cant carry it with you if you want to survive

The dog days are over
The dog days are done
Can you hear the horses?
'Cause here they come

The dog days are over
The dog days are done
The horses are coming
So you better run

I agree: lighten up!

I'd have a tough time choosing between the 1812 Overture and Beethoven's Ninth - Ode to Joy.

I agree with Azur Richard. The world ending is not a very 'light' topic, so I don't think it would hurt to simply think of such a scenario. In fact, I would love to 'go' to a sweet song playing in the background.

Having said that, there are so many songs I'd love to listen to in the last moment. Maybe Nocturne no. 2 by Chopin
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGRO05WcNDk because I always sense incredible emotions when I listen to it.
or Heaven Only Knows by K-OS
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPLQuRTk-oo Because it was the first song I heard that made me think outside the box.

Turn this up (x2)
Yo uh-huh
Yes no no no beat yeah no no no beat
Bring it (x2)
(Chorus)
Heaven only knows, cause I don't understand (understand now)
Won't you tell me please (tell me) what's the master plan (master plan)
Spend so many days (many days), sitting on a cloud (sitting on a cloud)
Heaven only knows (only God knows), so I'll just move the crowd
Now I break out of my physical shell and exhale past this so called body
Used to go to the party, but now I sit and chill with a pen and a pad
Dropping ill philosophical science me and my dad, we talk about life and how it started
How we departed from life's path and probable right math
The task at hand is making people understand that were not who we think we are
But in this land of the lost the cost of souls could be so high
People be gettin high, wondering why we die
But it's all planned, forget your fear take the hand
We keep on returning cause the lessons need learning
Concerning (what) fact I sing and I rap, I hold this mic contact
Critics can step back and analyze, I energize, cosmic rays of days the igno
Then get my signal for the sun
(Chorus)
Heaven only knows, cause I don't understand (don't understand)
Won't you tell me please (cause I pray everyday) what's the master plan (the master plan)
Spend so many days (many days), sitting on a cloud (sitting on a cloud)
Heaven only knows (only God knows), so I'll just move the crowd
So uh riddle me this, riddle me this like this
Melodical prodigal flows, hypnotical blows to brain pieces (ooh)
Telekinesis (ahh) when I reach this pinnacle, cynical, clinical
Microphone autobots, waiting on lotto spots, trying to rock
But yo they can't understand, there's only one plan
The time is at hand, in the year two zero one one
The people of the sun return to free the righteous children
Now, I know you wanna be on top of the world
Giving a diamond and pearl to your girl
Watching your jacuzzi swirl (uh), seems like material lust
We need to look up to the heavens for imperial trust (me)
It's kinda hard you rhyme sometimes everybody wants to scrutinize
Redefine who you are, but every person is a star
So let your light shine far, and praise god
(Chorus)
Heaven only knows (only knows now), cause I don't understand (don't understand now)
Won't you tell me please (tell me please) what's the master plan (I wanna know the plan)
Spend so many days (many days), sitting on a cloud (sitting on a cloud)
Heaven only knows (yo if you feel this sing it wit me now), so I'll just move the crowd
La la la la la la la la la la I'll just move the crowd for now (gotta move the crowd (x3)
La la la la la la la la la la (la la) I'll just move the crowd for now
Somebody told me they said uh
If you free them (uh huh) they will start revolution and Babylon can not defeat them
(right yo)
And they don't want that (x3)
If you free them (free them) they will start revolution (uh huh)
and Babylon can not defeat them (mind revolution (x2))
And so uh huh huh, my sister (??)
My girl (??) (do you know the time)
The shadows forehand and thats love baby
(And I gel)?? and uh the Figure Four uh huh
The Rascalz and uh Kardinal and uh
My Mom and Dad uh huh
My brother A and uh my brother J and uh
The whole world uh huh
The T-Dot uh huh
The Van City uh huh
The whole world uh huh
You get love uh huh
Yo (x5) right

Richard, you might want to think about why you had such a strong emotional reaction to Adys question. Is there something on your mind right now?

I'd put this very loud :

_http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_7igz4YHhA

and hope that the comets hit very fast to make it stop

:D

That 1812 Overture choice sure put a major grin on my face. I could hear the cymbals, and the guns go BOOM.
Yee Haw, BOOM.!.!.! BOOM.!.!.!
If ya gotta go, might as well go out with a smile, yes, with a good lawn chair for the outdoor concert.
It's just a matter of timing to track that BOOM correctly...
BOOM.!.!.!

I'm torn between Azur's choice (what an excellent one!), Mrs Tigersoaps and Laura's.

So my choice is (I'm not sure if I'm going for irony or symbolism here  ) - The Ride of the Valkyries, by Richard Wagner - preferably as loud as possible.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V92OBNsQgxU

And for a laugh - The Hawaii 5.0 theme (this should be listened too complete with canoe paddling actions) :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LnK8b_jk8w

Aaron Copeland's Fanfare For The Common Man

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NjssV8UuVA&feature=related

Heard that in my head as clear if I was standing in front of the orchestra, on the shore of Loch Voil watching the sun come up one morning in May, thinking about my brother who died many years ago.

Edit: Azur> Excellent choice. :P

Also making all the hair on my arms stand up at the moment is Murray Gold's "I Am The Doctor"

Okay. It seems like a number of people are showing me a mirror and I should take a good look.

You are probably right about the emotion. I am trying to find it, but it seems to be very "slippery".

As a matter of fact, I have been thinking about providing for my family if some accident took me away, but I can't find a clear connection.

I apologize for the harsh words. Thanks for the feedback.

Excellent choice Mrs T -
And Redfox - Love the Hawaii 5.O idea! ( there was a really cool reggae version in the early 80's but I can't find it anywhere)

But I think I would go for Olympia's Aria from The Tales of Hoffman

Ady, a good fun thread ! thank you!

Al
