There are 5 classes of steroid hormones: testosterone (androgen), estradiol (estrogen), progesterone (progestin), cortisol/corticosterone (glucocorticoids), and aldosterone (mineralocorticoid). Testosterone and its most potent metabolite, dihydrotestosterone (DHT), progesterone, and estradiol are classified as sexual steroids, while cortisol/corticosterone and aldosterone are collectively referred to as corticosteroids.


Sexual steroids are essential for the body's development and proper functioning. They regulate sexual differentiation, the emergence of secondary sexual characteristics, sexual behavior patterns, and reproduction. The production of these steroids follows sexual dimorphism, involving differences not only in hormonal action but also in regulation and temporal patterns of production. However, they all depend on a strategic chemical substance: cholesterol.


Since cholesterol cannot be dissolved in the blood, it is "carried" through the body using a "transportation medium" called lipoprotein – which is essentially cholesterol with a protein coating. In humans, we find two types of lipoproteins doing this job: low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL).


All steroid hormones are produced using cholesterol from a common precursor (pregnenolone) formed by the enzymatic cleavage of a 6-carbon side chain from the 27-carbon cholesterol molecule. This reaction is catalyzed by the cytochrome P450 cleavage enzyme (P450scc, CYP11A1) at the mitochondrial level.


Tissues that produce steroid hormones capture cholesterol from 4 main sources: (1) Cholesterol synthesized by the body from acetate; (2) Cholesterol harvested from HDL and LDL; (3) Cholesterol derived from the hydrolysis of cholesterol ester deposits; and (4) Cholesterol internalized by the plasma membrane.


Although the 3 main steroid-producing organs (adrenal, testicles, and ovaries) can produce cholesterol under the influence of certain hormones, the adrenals and ovaries preferentially use cholesterol captured directly from the bloodstream.


Foods, drugs, and toxins that interfere with mitochondrial function or the body's ability to maintain good cholesterol reserves (or sustain healthy circulating cholesterol levels) will ultimately undermine your sexual hormone levels – especially testosterone.


This leads me to question to what extent the "war on cholesterol" is not just a disguise for the many faces of the notorious "war on masculinity" that has fiercely plagued the West for the past 5 decades.

Fair play to Mr Hanks. As likeable as he seems, I had, for some reason, taken him to be on the woke side of things. I could be entirely wrong about that. At least here he is well on the side of common sense:

Tom Hanks says he would boycott books that are rewritten to avoid offending “modern sensitivities”.

The American film star appeared on the BBC to discuss his debut novel and was asked whether he supports the censorship of works by authors such as Roald Dahl and Agatha Christie.

Hanks said he was “of the opinion that we’re all grown-ups here” and that he would be “against reading any book from any era that says ‘abridged due to modern sensitivities’”.

His remarks follow revelations by The Telegraph that the publishers of books by Dahl and Christie made significant changes to their work, redacting language that they deemed unsuitable for modern readers.

Another good interview by JBP, this time with Riley Gaines, a professional swimmer who talks about the push for biological men entering women's sports, and her experiences e.g. regarding Lia Thomas. Hearing her first hand account really drives home the realization that the US is becoming a complete pathocracy. In these types of interviews I really appreciate the meticulous way JBP 'sets the scene' before diving into the main topic. It's like a mini-therapy session for the person who's being interviewed. :-)

Russia is floating an idea to build a village for hundreds of American and Canadian families who want to run away from the cultural climate in North America.

The village, slated for construction in Moscow's suburbs in 2024, is meant for conservative families who want to "emigrate for ideological reasons," said immigration lawyer Timur Beslangurov on Thursday, according to RIA Novosti.

Around 200 families have expressed interest in the project, Beslangurov said in a speech at a legal forum in St. Petersburg, the state outlet reported.

Many of these families don't have Russian roots but are tired of "the inculcation of radical values" in the US and Canada, Beslangurov said.

"Today, they have 70 genders, it is not known what will happen next," he added, per RIA Novosti. The same rhetoric has been used frequently by Russian Vladimir Putin as US-Russia relations worsened over the last several years. In December 2021, he compared gender nonconformity to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Most of the expats who want to move to the village are Catholics and "strongly believe in the prediction that Russia will remain the only Christian country in the world," Beslangurov said.

The village project has been greenlit by authorities, and the new settlers will pay for the construction, Beslangurov added, per state media.

Insider could not independently verify Beslangurov's claims. When contacted by Insider, the lawyer said the project is in the works, but declined to share further details.

It takes around 1hr. 20 min to get to JP's question of why these woman would compete against men anyway. Riley lays out the gaslighting and blackmailing by the administrators, the constant Maoist (JP's words)of DEI reeducation; often once a week, to guilt them for their feelings while reminding them of the jeopardies to their careers, et cetera.

Then there is the locker rooms. Good God.
 
A friend of mine who I meet once a week and who is 72 years old told me an anecdote about a friend of hers who is a grandmother. She was with her 8-year-old grandson who told her: "Grandma, you are old, go to a residence." But that's not all: the little boy also said to her: "grandma, when will I be a little girl?"

I must admit that this is a terrible, terrible anecdote.

“Cultural Marxism” is destroying children’s souls and leading to an increase in self-harm and suicide, a Tory MP has argued.

Miriam Cates, who represents the Red Wall seat of Penistone and Stocksbridge, said the teaching of critical race theory and concepts in schools were responsible for higher levels of various mental illnesses.

She told the National Conservatism Conference she was unsurprised fewer young people were choosing to become parents because they did not have “hope for the future” themselves.

“That hope is sadly diminishing in so many of our young people today,” Ms Cates said. “Because liberal individualism has proven to be completely powerless to resist the cultural Marxism that is systematically destroying our children's souls.

“When culture, schools and universities openly teach that our country is racist, our heroes are villains, humanity is killing the Earth, you are what you desire, diversity is theology, boundaries are tyranny and self-restraint is oppression, is it any wonder that mental health conditions, self-harm and suicide, and epidemic levels of anxiety and confusion characterise the emerging generation?”

Anti-Semitism
Lord Mann, the Government’s anti-Semitism tsar, questioned Ms Cates’s use of the term “cultural Marxism”, saying it was rooted in a “conspiracy theory with anti-Semitism at its core”.

But Yoram Hazony, the chairman of the conference and an orthodox Jewish theologian, said the term was “an apt phrase to describe the cultural agenda promoted by many on the Left today” and insisted he “offers no platform to anti-Semites”.

Ms Cates said liberal ideology was “literally dying out” as a result because children who are not taught to be proud of their nation’s history have less desire to continue it.

At the start of her speech, she had claimed the UK’s declining fertility rate represented even more of a danger to western society than Vladimir Putin’s Russia or rising global temperatures.

“None of our philosophical musings or policy proposals will amount to anything long lasting unless we address the one overarching threat to British conservatism and the whole of western society.

“No, it’s not climate change, it’s not Russia or China or Iran. It’s not the neo-Marxist ideology that has so weakened our institutions. No, there is one critical outcome that liberal individualism has failed to deliver and that is babies.”

Ms Cates also made her strongest criticisms of the Government’s childcare offer to date, arguing a policy package including Jeremy Hunt’s expansion of free childcare at the Spring Budget “devalues the crucial role of motherhood”.

“This childcare policy implies the chief role of a mother should be as a GDP contributor, while outsourcing her child to the state.”
