Huge explosions in Romanian gas station: one dead and 57 Injured

One person has died and at least 57 were injured after twin explosions at a liquefied petroleum gas station (LPG) in Romania, on Saturday.

Eight people were reportedly intubated with severe burns, authorities say, with four of them sent to specialist hospitals in neighbouring countries for vital treatment. Footage shows the moment a second explosion rocked the area, sending dozens running for their lives and injuring at least 26 firefighters at the scene.

The explosions happened at a fueling station that provides liquefied petroleum gas, a fuel used in household appliances and as a gasoline and diesel alternative in some vehicles.

They took place in the town of Crevedia, around 30 kilometers (18 miles) northwest of Romania's capital, Bucharest. Romania's health minister, Alexandru Rafila, confirmed to local media that one person had died. Several burn victims had been transported to hospitals in Bucharest for treatment, at least one of whom suffered extensive injuries, he said.

Romanian emergency rescue service SMURD said in a press release that a second explosion took place shortly after the first one.

The head of the Romanian directorate for emergency situations, Raed Arafat, said 26 firefighters sustained injuries in the second explosion. Arafat also said that residents of the area had been evacuated in a radius of 750 meters (2,460 feet) around the station, and that one LPG tank was still at risk of exploding.

A video on social media showed that the fire spread to an adjacent field and was steadily engulfing a low layer of dry crops. Several nearby houses and vehicles were damaged by the fire.

Edit: Update from Euronews, with at least one more dead:

Ten people are in critical condition. Authorities say eight residential properties were destroyed in the blasts and another 11 suffered damages. Thirty-nine firefighters who responded to the first explosion at the facility in Crevedia, north of the capital, were injured when a second explosion occurred.

Spiegel-Defective e-car battery triggered explosion
Garages destroyed, homes damaged: a violent explosion caused havoc in Neuss. Now it is clear that there was no intent behind it.
According to investigators, a parked electric car caused the violent explosion in a garage in Neuss. A defect in the car's battery led to a fire and gas escaping from the battery led to the explosion on Sunday, police said.
Investigations by the criminal investigation department and an expert have meanwhile been able to rule out other causes, it said. The explosion had caused considerable damage in the residential area. Several adjacent garages were destroyed and residential buildings damaged.

I have the impression that Reuters minimizes the tremendous explosion.

Fire contained after powerful blast near airport in Uzbek capital-Reuters
TASHKENT, Sept 28 (Reuters) - A fire caused by a powerful explosion at a warehouse near Tashkent's airport had been contained and the situation was under control, Uzbekistan's Ministry of Emergency Situations (FVV) said on Thursday.

The shock wave from the early morning blast shattered dozens of windows in nearby apartment blocks and some people were being treated for injuries, according to Uzbekistan's Health Ministry, but none of those were serious.

Video and photographs on social media showed flames soaring into the night sky and a huge cloud of smoke.

The cause of the explosion was unclear, with one report of "strong lightning". The ministry said a "special laboratory" had been set up at the scene to investigate the explosion.
"As a result of the quick actions of FVV employees, the area of the fire is being reduced," the ministry said on the Telegram messaging app. "The situation is completely under control".
Flights at Tashkent International Airport were taking off and landing as normal, its administration said.

According to a post on social media from Uzbek media outlet Daryo, 16 fire and rescue crews were sent to fight the fire at one of the warehouses located in the city's Sergeli district near the airport.

An interesting X of the explosion, from left to right something seems to went down. At second 4. Slow the tape.

This one is interesting.

There does indeed appear to be something streaking downwards in the direction of the location of 'impact'.

And official (Uzbek) reports did initially report that this explosion was caused by a lightning strike, although that explanation has since been dropped in MSM reporting on it:

An explosion following a lightning strike in the Uzbek capital kills 1 person and injures 162

The building that was 'hit' - a large customs warehouse at Tashkent's airport - reportedly stored lots of e-vehicles.

Over 24 hours later, there's still nothing on this incident on RT or Sputnik.

There isn't much or more info, indeed.
Weird.

Looks like something was already in fire before the or another explosion.
Ports taken from another version

Add:
Sergeli, the electric cars in the customs warehouse did not catch fire and did not explode.

In the video, you can see that thousands of electric cars were not damaged.

❗️It has not yet been officially announced what caused the powerful explosion in the warehouse.

😮

Another lighting strike... And is not convincing either.

Oxford 'explosion' after lightning strike seen from A34
People living in and around Oxford have been left startled after seeing what has been described as "an explosion".

Householders and motorists have shared videos of the sky being lit up on Monday evening from around 7pm.

One eyewitness said: "Saw this strange pulsing sky out of our windows looking north west of Oxford. I’m guessing it’s a fire caused by the lightning storm that passed over."
Another eyewitness said: "I don't know what it was but it was massive. There were lots of fire brigade and police cars minutes later going through A40."

Fire engines were racing towards the Osney Mead industrial estate, just off Botley Road, in Oxford from around 6pm after reports of a fire at Shirtworks.

However, it is not understood the "explosion" and this fire are connected.

The Met Office had issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms in Oxford this evening.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service and Thames Valley Police have been contacted for comment.
It comes as rain has been falling throughout the evening accompanied by lightning strikes.
