hey folks,

i'm currently working on translating some of your sott articles to dutch. for now i'm mostly interested in articles relating to ponerology and i would like some comment and advise on this. not much to find on the dutch net relating to this issue. holland is ponerised beyond belief (really, no other country is quite as corrupt as ours) so i put the task upon myself to educate the dutch about this and post it all on my website: www.groepzuid.nl

so can you guys give me some good advise on the do's and don'ts; also some general advise on translating articles, please.

thanks a lot!

Hi bas groepzuid,

Maybe you could read those two threads.

That could give you an idea to how to do it.

Hi Bas, translating SOTT articles in Dutch is indeed worthwile, and paying attention to Political Ponerology even more. However, you might want to give some more background information before committing yourself to this gesture.

Hello bas groepzuid!
Maybe you could introduce yourself first and tell us what material from the sites you've already read, what you understood from them, which ones you liked/disliked and why.
Ponerology is a very difficult and complex concept. My advice woud be that if you want to translate stuff from these sites, it would be good to start first by news articles from SotT's page, like the "SotT focus" for example, and stick with it for a while before turning to more complex stuff such as the Wave series and the Cass material overall.
As far as translations are concerned, you'll need a very thorough paper dictionary (like the Robert and Collins for ex), a good Dutch dictionary, a good page or book on the typography rules both in Dutch and in English (they're often different. For example English uses capital letters a lot. Not so in French. I dunno for Dutch :))
A good translation requires a lot of searching on the Internet. You can use these sites :
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/
http://www.answers.com/
For idioms and phrases : http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/
English dictionary : http://www.askoxford.com/?view=uk
Wikipedia (good for finding the equivalent translation in your native language - for example, historical events, political terms, parties, organisations, and so on)
If there's a quotation in the original text/article, I suggest you look for the translation of that quotation in your native language, if you can find it. It's better than translating it yourself. Especially if it comes from some famous author or person.
And of course, google can be useful in case you don't find the meaning of a term/expression by the means mentionned above; just type the english term, google it and see what comes out of it. The term might appear in a specific context that will allow you to understand/guess the meaning and translate it properly.
I hope these advice will help you in this work.
Don't hesitate to ask questions if you need help.

Hi Bas, and welcome to the forum. I read the review of the book Ponerology on your website, and I tried to leave a comment, but it seems the comments on that article are closed. So, for your information, I'm posting it here, because I think your article isn't quite accurate.

And I think it's best to have this discussion here in English, so I translated my comment:

It's good this book gets the attention it definitely deserves. However, this is a difficult subject, and this article contains a number of things that aren't true. There is, for instance, the following written:
"ponerology is a part of theology which studies evil;". Ponerology is definitely not a part of theology, far from it. This book is written by a man who experienced evil up close for years during the Nazi and Soviet rule. He has, together with a large number of other scientists, of which some have paid with their lives for doing this scientific work, laid the basis for this new area of science. Ponerology isn't part of this vague 'scientific' study as theology, but a whole new scientific discipline.

I hope you come in here and post your thoughts. I liked your website, it has a lot of good information on a number of subjects. It seems you've really taken off with writing articles. On the other hand, I think that a good understanding of Ponerology, psychopathy and the way people are taken in by psychopaths, may help you to not be infiltrated as a person or as a group.
