Un tel ensemble est évidemment illisible par quiconque.

C’est pour remédier à cette lacune qu’a été écrit le présent opuscule dans le but de mettre à la portée de tous les quelques chiffres nécessaires pour pouvoir appréhender le domaine du climat. La tâche pourrait paraître impossible, mais elle ne l’est pas et après en avoir lu ce très court recueil, il devient possible à chacun de se forger sa propre opinion sur les multiples aspects que comportent le domaine du climat et des actes conduits en son nom.

Christian Gerondeau est ingénieur polytechnicien et auteur de plusieurs ouvrages sur les questions environnementales. Il s’attache à lire TOUS les textes produits par le GIEC depuis sa création.

On 9 August, as part of the IPCC's 6th report, Working Group 1 published a document of almost 2,000 pages. It states that it was written by 751 authors from 66 countries, cites over 14,000 references and took into account 78,007 comments from governments and experts. Such a collection is obviously unreadable by anyone.

It is to remedy this shortcoming that this booklet has been written, with the aim of bringing within everyone's reach the few figures needed to understand the climate field. i read koonin, it is at around pages 50s, and i still did not get it.
what they appear to say is that with the existing concentration of co2 any possible warming due to the co2 is already saturated. therefore, adding more co2 does not change anything as the "heat retention ability of co2", if such a thing exists, has already achieved full opacity to the thermal radiation to be emitted - but i may enounce this wrongly. but i find the koonin book too colloquial and not factual enough. so, i still do not understand it... i also believe that the "greenhouse" effect does not exist, since the atmosphere is an open system... could someone explain what i mean so that i understand it?

The fact that increasing the CO2 content of the atmosphere has no effect on the Earth's temperature is due to a phenomenon known as the "black curtain". A moderate CO2 content is enough to block a whole part (frequencies of 14 to 16 microns) of the radiation re-emitted by the Earth towards space when it is hit by the sun's rays. Thanks in part to this blocking, our planet is considerably warmer than it would be without it.

But once this radiation is completely blocked, increasing the concentration of CO2 has no effect. When you put a black curtain in front of a window to block out the light, superimposing a second curtain over the first changes nothing, as Steven E. Koonin explains so well in his book [4].

The Sahara and Côte d'Ivoire also provide proof that CO2 plays a lesser role than water vapour (H2O).
