The Wizard of Oz and Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon

The Living Force
Has anyone known or heard it said that if you play Pink Floyd's
"The Dark Side of the Moon" at a very specific point (I don't
know where that is, since I am hard-of-hearing), and at some
point in the The Wizard of Oz (turning off the sound), therein
lies the secret? (Again, I have not personally done this, but
will hopefully do this with my sister when she visits me and if I
can find the lyrics and that can caption along with the singing
with a music player that supports this (Amarok?))

Is there any truth to this or has anyone discovered this, or is
this just plain bunk?

Just wondering,
Dan

Dan, queue up Wizard of Oz on DVD and start to play with no sound.

When the Lion roars in the opening credit sequence, start DSotM.

The claim is that the musical soundtrack is perfectly timed to the action in the movie. Pink Floyd has consistently denied any overt connection between DSotM and WoO.

In addition to the dark side of the rainbow, Echoes (Pink Floyd, Meddle) is said to be in sync with 2001, space odyssey. I don't know if it's true but the music is so wonderful and the picture so beautiful that it's really worth having a glimpse.

Here's the video.

The key is to start the music when the lion roars for the third time.

Thanks to all who have responded and maybe others will
share in their experiences as to what they got out of it!

Many years ago, I made my own headphones with 50W(?)
Radio-Shack "tweeters" speakers, meant to be directly
connected to amplifier speaker outputs (and not via
headphone jacks), and not generally intended for those
with normal hearing but for those who are hearing
impaired, unless you don't mind having your hearing
shot! ;) Also, the home-made headphones are quite
heavy - at least 10lbs- so wearing it may give you
a very thick (or very sore) neck after a time! :D

The interesting thing tho, if you cannot hear it - you can
at least feel[\i] it! Esp. adjusting the bandwidth/volume,
when fed though a graphics equalizer - (mine is a car
AMP/Pioneer "Graphics Equalizer Booster" which has at
least 50W/ch)

Anyway - I esp. liked the 'On The Run' as via headphones,
you can sense/feel a `vortex swirling' around your head,
esp. the heartbeat. Pretty neat!

The TDSotM does not cover the entire movie, it ends around
Tinman's skit, which explains why the given TDSotM link above,
it is short compared to the entire movie.

I noted that TDSotM is not really timed perfectly to the characters
singing in song/marching and all of that so perhaps it's the words
that covey the meaning of the scenes, PF style? I do not know.

As for `Meddle' (echo) - that was interesting.

But of course both TDSotM/Meddle(echo) is perhaps subjective
and perhaps others may have a different experience.

Again, thanks for sharing!

I had a look and the two didn't seem to match up that well. That soaring celtic solo Gilmour does on Echoes seemed out of place.

while we're on the topic of pink floyd and syncing... the album "wish you were here" syncs almost perfectly with the matrix, and creepily so. a friend and i stumbled across these videos on youtube yesterday. the synchronization is... well... jaw dropping. a few of the parts were so right on, they gave me chills. these below were the "best" ones, osit. if you follow the related links on youtube you can find the rest of the segments as well.

When doing the sync, you need to ensure you're watching the NTSC version of The Wizard of Oz which has a different frame-rate from the PAL version. This applies to all movies of course. All PAL movies run shorter than their NTSC versions.
