the canonization of Judas Iscariot ?

Dear Forumites,

Along the reading process of the CofZ, I found this sentence :

CofZ p. 7 of the 42nd chapter said:
These crowning acts of symbolism were the reproductions, after nearly thirty years, of the similar acts committed during the revolution in Russia: the Talmudic boast left on the wall of the Romanoffs' death chamber and the canonization of Judas Iscariot
Since I don't know much about history and even less about unofficial history, this book is like a journey, I read sources and accounts about the different events mentioned by Douglas Reed.

Here comes my problem, I didn't find one source stating that Judas Iscariot was canonized. Some hypothesis could explain it :
* a mix up between "Judas Iscariot" and "Judas Thadee" (aka St Jude) ?
* a past (and non completed) project of canonization of Judas Iscariot ?
* ...

If you know more about this canonization of Judas Iscariot, feel free to share these information.

During these researches, I realized that D. Reed might have been visionary since a few days ago Benedictus XVI had a very supportive speech about Judas Iscariot (interview quoted, of course, in the Opus Dei website : http:(double slash)www.opusdei.us/art.php?p=19571)

Oh gosh,

That reminds me that I read somewhere that Judas Iscariot was not really
a traitor in the sense it was presented in the bible. I doubt that I can locate
this... I will try to find it...

Maybe these links:

I just hope that the true history behind the 'Council of Trent' is fully exposed and in details
to show the parallels of the Hitler movement of mass book burning, murder, politizations,
and outright mayhem. History DOES repeat itself and the masses really do not learn their
lessons well.

In English, it's kind of a slang expression actually. When you say that someone has been "canonized," you aren't necessarily saying that they have been submitted to the official process undertaken by the Catholic Church to declare someone a saint. What it means, basically, is to re-define someone as "saintly" who, previously, was merely human. It can also be used pejoratively to mean "Stalinizing," or "rewriting history."

What Reed meant was to take Judas Iscariot - the quintessential traitor - and transform him into a good guy in people's minds. Curiously, there have been a number of moves in this direction of late. See:

http://www.nationalgeographic.com/lostgospel/?fs=www9.nationalgeographic.com

and:

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2006/04/0406_060406_judas.html

where you can read:

He is one of the most reviled men in history.

But was Judas only obeying his master's wishes when he betrayed Jesus with a kiss? ...

That's what a newly revealed ancient Christian text says.

After being lost for nearly 1,700 years, the Gospel of Judas was recently restored, authenticated, and translated.

The only known surviving copy of the gospel was found in a codex, or ancient book, that dates back to the third or fourth century A.D.

The newly revealed gospel document, written in Coptic script, is believed to be a translation of the original, a Greek text written by an early Christian sect sometime before A.D. 180.

The Bible's New Testament Gospels-Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John-depict Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus, as a traitor. In biblical accounts Judas gives up Jesus Christ to his opponents, who later crucify the founder of Christianity.

The Gospel of Judas, however, portrays him as acting at Jesus' request.

"This lost gospel, providing information on Judas Iscariot-considered for 20 centuries and by hundreds of millions of believers as an antichrist of the worst kind-bears witness to something completely different from what was said [about Judas] in the Bible," said Rodolphe Kasser, a clergyman and former professor in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Geneva in Switzerland.
Considering what Reed predicted, it sure makes you wonder if this is not a cooked up fraud - cooked up by guess who???

Thank you for this clarification. Now Reed's sentence makes more sense.
