Onion Rings!!!!!!

We used the frying batter Laura described in another thread to make killer onion rings...

Yummy, felt like we were sinning ;-)

Ingredients (this is approximate, we don't measure):

Buckwheat flour - one cup
Baking powder - one table spoon
Salt to taste
Black Pepper to taste
Grape seed oil - one table spoon
Hemp milk to desired thickness
Organic Dijon Mustard - one table spoon (optional)

Fry it in a stainless steel pan, with extra virgin olive oil about one inch deep.

Oooooo! I love onion rings.

So does Hubby.

Looks like we'll have to clothes pin the blankets to the mattress if I make on of those bloomin onion things.... :rotfl:

We'll be frying them in duck fat.

Baking soda or baking powder?

I've been thinking of trying calamari (squid) recently as well.

Yeah, we did it with strips of fish and beans as well, really good. Any excuse to use the batter! ;)

Oops! I mean baking powder. I fixed it in my original post. :)

Thanks. That much baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) would have tasted really nasty!

Looks delicious!! Thanks for the recipe, definitely gonna give it a shot. :)

I'm going to have to give this a try. They look great!

When you do it with green beans, do you cook the green beans at all before frying?

Nope, just fresh. ;)

Just make sure whatever you fry in the batter, that it's as dry as you can get it, so the batter can stick.
