If Life was a House

I wrote this in December 2006....

If life was a house
Should it not be built serenely?
Build it not on sand for sand is easily displaced
Build it not upon dirt for dirt is of sand
But build it upon a stone
A stone not of desire but of love
For love is forever

If life was a house
Should it not be built of walls that are sturdy?
Not of desire for desire changes and is not sturdy
Not of ignorance for that would be foolish
But of True knowledge born of experience
Only through experience is knowledge obtained

If life was a house
Should it not have a roof as a provider of protection to the dwellers within?
A roof is sturdy as its walls
Thus build it not of Intelligence
But only with the essence that is born of knowledge
Thus, it is of wisdom that the roof is built

If life was a house
Should not the beauty of the inside match what is outside?
For the essence without comes from the essence within

If life was a house
How would you build yours?

Being a bit of a boat crazy, I've always liked Arthur Ransome's take on "houses".

"Houses are but badly built boats so firmly aground that you cannot think of moving them. They are definitely inferior things, belonging to the vegetable, not the animal world, rooted and stationary, incapable of transition. The desire to build a house is the tired wish of a man content thenceforward with a single anchorage. The desire to build a boat is the desire of youth, unwilling yet to accept the idea of a final resting place." -from A. Ransome's "Racundra's First Cruise" 1928

(BTW, I do live in a house, long story)
