The government version is the suspect is former student Nicolas de Jesus Cruz.

However, reporter Matt Musil interviewed witness Alexa Miednik. Miednik was walking with Cruz when the shooting began and Miednik made a joke to Cruz that she was surprised it wasn't him shooting. The actual video of Miednik's interview is on Musil's twitter site for now; I don't know how to download it.

On another news site, the Miednik video has also been taken down, and here is the text from that article.

A teenage student who survived a Valentine's Day massacre at her high school has told of a chilling encounter with the mass shooting suspect as terrified youngsters fled.
Alexa Miednik said she briefly spoke to Nikolas Cruz, who is accused of killing 17 people and wounding more than a dozen others in a rampage at Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
The teen claims her class was rushing out of the school when she saw "troubled" Cruz, 19, after hearing gunshots, and she joked that she thought he would have been the gunman.
Alexa said: "I kind of joked to him about it and said I’m surprised you weren't the one who did it."
She added: "He just gave me a, 'huh?'"
Alexa, a senior at Douglas High School, told KHOU-TV journalist Matt Musil in the aftermath that the fire alarm went off as she returned to her classroom from the bathroom.
The principal then came over the loudspeaker and said "everyone needs to evacuate right now", she added.
Alexa said: "As I was going down the stairs I heard a couple of shots fired. Everyone was freaking out, saying that it was a gun.
"As we were walking the whole class together, I actually was speaking to the suspect Nikolas Cruz, and as I was speaking to him he seemed very, I don’t know what the word I want to say is, but he was troubled in middle school.
"So, I kind of joked to him about it and said I’m surprised you weren’t the one who did it, and he just gave me a 'huh?'"
In the aftermath Alexa thought a second shooter was involved, but US media have reported that there was just a single gunman involved in Wednesday afternoon's atrocity.
US media reported that the gunman tried to blend in with students who were fleeing the school.
Cruz was arrested following the massacre which was carried out by a gunman armed with an AR-15 assault rifle.
Police said he had been previously expelled from the high school in Parkland, 45 miles north of Miami, for disciplinary reasons, while former classmates described him as a "troubled" teen who was obsessed with guns.
One student told reporters that "kids were making jokes saying that ‘he will be the one to shoot up the school’. But it turns out… everyone predicted it."
Cruz allegedly wore a gas mask and threw a number of smoke grenades into the corridors on the third floor of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shortly before pupils were due to leave for the day.
The fire alarm went off and Cruz allegedly opened fire on pupils and staff as they left classrooms.
Students said there was confusion when the fire alarm sounded because they had already practiced a drill that morning, and the principal then came over the intercom and told them to leave the school.
Police said Cruz was armed with an AR-15 rifle and "countless" magazines of ammunition.
The same weapon was used in other recent US mass shootings including massacres in Las Vegas, Pulse nightclub and Sandy Hook school.
Once the shooting finally stopped, news helicopters captured footage of Cruz being handcuffed and led into a police patrol car.
Wednesday's massacre ranked as the second-deadliest act of gun violence ever on a US public school campus.
The number of school shootings in the US has steadily increased in recent years.
There have been 18 school shootings in the US already this year, an average of one every 2.5 days. At this time last year there had been seven.
According to Gun Violence Archive, there have been 30 mass shootings since January 1, or one every 1.5 days.
