Has anyone discussed CAPTCHAs?

Having just received a classic money transfer scam message from "koffi4love", I was curious if any of the forums administrators had considered using a CAPTCHA to prevent comment spam and mail abuse.
 
I know wing tv use a similar thing due to ddos, you have to enter the four digit number to proceed to the download page for their podcasts.
 
koffi4love was not a machine. It was a "human" being. BTW he registered again today as koffi55. The IP points to Ivory Coast. I hope we have blocked this spammer before he was able to send the spam out. CAPTCHA is of no help in this case.
