Dislocation Theory of Addiction

I was reading up on the rat experiments conducted by Prof. Bruce Alexander that was mentioned in a SOTT article some time ago, and I came across an article of his detailing his 'Dislocation Theory of Addiction'. It's a very interesting and heartening read, so I thought I would share it. I'm considering getting his book 'The Globalization of Addiction: A Study in Poverty of the Spirit', that is if I can find a copy that isn't so expensive.

Dislocation Theory draws attention to social causes of addiction that can only be remedied through deep changes in the status quo of modern society. The fact that the Official View does not threaten the status quo in any serious way may help to explain how it has become so deeply entrenched in the public mind and in officialdom, despite its conceptual weakness and practical inefficacy.

This video that was in the side bar of the above page is also well worth viewing. He comes right out and says that the capitalist market system inevitably creates addiction problems because of the social isolation that results from the strategies people must adopt to survive in it:

Yes, thank you A Jay for posting.

I watched the video and enjoyed the information presented. I noted that I was put off by Steve Paikin's attitude towards Prof. Alexander, however he may be 'playing' the devils advocate so take that for what you will. I also saw his other interview with Dr Gabor Maté and he was the same so perhaps it's his 'style'.

Merci pour ce lien très instructif...

Thank you for this very informative link ...
