Attention Italians! Italian Postepay Card - Fraudster's Dream

Miss Isness

Jedi Master
After having €200.00 stolen from my postepay card on-line to pay for train tickets on the trenitalia site, I did a search to see if anyone else had suffered the same fate. I discovered that I was not alone. I also found out that although Poste has access to ID details of the on-line card user, they will not disclose them. The card is not insured, even though there is a €1.00 charge every time you transfer money to it. If you go to the Polizia Postale, or the Carabinieri they will take a report, but it ends there - no refund, no punishment for the thieves, no hassle for the state or Poste.

The moral of this story is: If you want easy money, and an easy life become a thief in Italy. If you aren't cut out for that then try being a banker. If that's not an option then work for the government.

Hi Miss Isness, that's sad news indeed.

Apparently there was one guy here that was refunded, even if it's not that clear:

In the reply another one says that the Barclaycard ( _http://www.barclaycard.it/ ) is fraud-proof, just check the 'Products' page.

Seems that these cards are being cloned! Then someone argues that someone inside Poste It and banks in general may be responsible for the cloning, legally, and maybe also practically.

Adusbef.it could be useful for fraud cases, I'm checking it periodically.

Hi Dantem!

Thanks for the info. ;) It was enough to convince me to try asking for a refund. Will let you know if how it goes.
