4K, 60 fps color videos. Taken 100 years ago.

When respect for the elderly was still natural. An old captain tells little boys the adventures he had at sea? (maybe) In any case, they liked what he had to tell. Photo taken between 1900-1919 in New York.

100 Years ago today, American Ralph DePalma took 2nd Place at the French Grand Prix in Le Mans. Here behind the wheel of his Ballot 3LR in the 1st French Grand Prix since the end of WWI, he finished the 321 miles in 4h22m10.6, 15 minutes behind Jimmy Murphy & his Duesenberg.

That was marvelous footage from Leipzig. I guess it's shot on original color film given the brightness and vividness of the colors. Doesn't look artificially colorized to me. What seemed of particular interest is the severe lack of traffic and no sign whatsoever of any apparent Nazi influence just two years before the take over.

Anyway, it inspired me to search for more and the first thing of note I found was a rather similar 1906 street car trip through Market Street, San Francisco (California, USA) with the added peculiarity that the footage was shot four days before the massive earthquake and fire that practically destroyed most of the city, with 3,000 killed and 250,000 made homeless.

Video 12:17 min.

Beautiful Amsterdam around 1922 in color! [AI enhanced]

Video 9:01 min. English subtitles available.

The film begins with stunning aerial views of old Amsterdam. Thereafter the film shows most of the famous spots like De Dam, the Palace on the Dam, the Nieuwe Kerk, unique views of Het Kolkje, the Nicolaas Kerk, characteristic old Markets, the Jordaan quarters, the Westertoren, Canals, the beautiful Central Station, the Rijksmuseum and much more! This film has been motion-stabilized, speed-corrected, straightened, A.I. enhanced and A.I. colorized by means of sophisticated contemporary video software.

The great music is by American composer and pianist Johannes Bornlof.
