13 Tzameti

I'm not so good at reviewing movies but I can only say that this one captures the stark truth of the human condition quite well, better than any movie I've seen in a while. If you're averse to violence or tension you might want to give this one a pass. I saw it last night and I'm still a little off kilter from it.

A poor immigrant gets stiffed on a construction job and steals the ticket to what he thinks will be a big payoff from his deceased employer. The cryptic clues in the stolen envelope eventually lead him into a bizarre and terrifying criminal underground gambling ring. The story is fairly straightforward and the allusions and metaphor's are handled very well, you never feel like a theme is being forced down your throat but the points are still brought home forcefully. It's in French, but don't let that fool you.
