The closest larger town where the quake might have been felt is Tuxtla Gutiérrez, a city with more than 540,000 inhabitants, in 84 km distance northeast of the epicenter. WORLDWIDE EARTHQUAKE REPORT MAY 03_2024

Moderate levels of seismic activity occurred in the past 24 hours. A strong magnitude 5.7 earthquake occurred in the Philippine Sea near Homonhon Island Island. According to USGS the quake might have been felt by over 13.8 million people across the Philippines. The closest larger town where the quake might have been felt is Tacloban City, a city with more than 240,000 inhabitants in the Philippines, in 53 km distance northwest of the epicenter. USGS issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. So far, 17 aftershocks have been detected. The strongest was a magnitude 3.5 quake that hit 4 hours after the mainshock. The strongest-ever (since 1900) recorded quake in this area measured magnitude 7.8. It occurred 73 years ago.

The quake might have been felt by over 400,000 people across Indonesia. The closest larger town where the quake might have been felt is Bula, a town with 0 inhabitants in Indonesia, in 55 km distance west of the epicenter. USGS issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. For this earthquake, 15 aftershocks have been detected so far.
