Moderate levels of seismic activity occurred in the past 24h hours. A very strong magnitude 6.2 earthquake occurred in the Ceram Sea near the coast of Maluku. The quake might have been felt by over 400,000 people across Indonesia. The closest larger town where the quake might have been felt is Bula, a town with 0 inhabitants in Indonesia, in 55 km distance west of the epicenter. USGS issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. For this earthquake, 15 aftershocks have been detected so far. The strongest was a magnitude 5.6 that hit 2 hours after the mainshock and was detected 5 km west of epicenter. The strongest-ever (since 1900) recorded quake in this area measured magnitude 8.5. It occurred 86 years ago. No seismogram available.
