Zappa and Fulcanelli

On Frank Zappa's album 'guitar' there is a song called 'But who was Fulcanelli?'. Now I'm not sure, but I don't think Fulcanelli is a particularly well known figure. Any Zappa fans have any idea why he would make this reference to him? (if you don't know what I'm talking about, read the Wave!).

Basically this post is just an excuse to say: ZAPPA WAS THE GREATEST MUSICIAN EVER (or maybe Beefheart or John McLaughlin). Anyone here agree with such a sweeping statement?

I wouldn't be too surprised if Zappa was interested in this stuff what we're interested in.

There is a little known link between the commonly known chilla with the also commonly popular Zappa. Unlike Zeppo, who was the only untalented Marx brother, Zappa was actually involved in formulating the filla for the chilla. Fortunately, his constant use of a Zippo prevented Zappa from adding the filla to the chilla - thus we have atrieides. Small world, eh?

Well Actually...

I had to check some of your facts, and after I spoke to Myrtle's sister's ex boyfriend's room mate's fraternal twins's best friend's cousin's god daughter's adopted son's gold fish, which let me tell you, was not easy, who knew water distorted sound that much eh? Anyway, where was I oh yeah, I was talking to Myrtle's sister's ex boyfriend's room mate's fraternal twins's best friend's cousin's god daughter's adopted son's gold fish, and since he didn't speak american, everyone knows that gold fish speak Thai, I had to wear an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time, though I didn't have a red onion, it was one of those yellow onions, that we used to wear on our belts, cause that was the style at the time, anyway, so there I am talking to Myrtle's sister's ex boyfriend's room mate's fraternal twins's best friend's cousin's god daughter's adopted son's gold fish, who didn't speak english, so I had to hire a translator, who didn't know about onions, which we used to wear on our belts, cause it was the style at the time...

Not if we keep him close to our hearts...

I think this counts towards my hijack quota...DoH!

I have wondered about Zappa's interest in Fulcanelli myself. Is he still alive and kicking out tunes?

I came across an interesting danglin' thread when I was recently in the capital of Lithuania, Vilnius. I was wandering about the streets and my girlfriend pointed to an area which was, basically, a Frank Zappa shrine - complete with huge mural and bust of Zappa! It was really quite impressive, and also extremely strange..

My girlfriend didnt really know why it was there, and it was really puzzling me as well because I knew Zappa wasnt Lithuanian, so when I got back I did some research and it appears that Zappa is a huge figure in the Baltic states (although he's never been there!) & Eastern Europe due to his anti establishment songs & stance.
I should note that Lithuanians are very proud of their new democracy after years of Soviet rule, and to find Frank Zappa as their ultimate symbol of freedom from opression was very interesting. The man obviously has some serious magnetism.

This is his Wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Zappa
Note that his father was a chemist & mathmetician and worked at Edwards AFB as a chemical warfare specialist!

"Is he still alive and kicking out tunes?" - not here anyway, he died in'93.

Barry- I he think he might have some Lithuanian ancestry, somewhere, as well as a few other European countries.
