I am not sure if it's been discussed here before (did not find anything as far as translation). But do you know that the last name Chertoff translates into from russian ? Chert = devil, ~off (ov) suffix of the last name usually indicates belonging to root part of a last name. So, yeah... Chertoff = "offspring of devil family"... literally speaking :)
