What are you listening to?

"The Edge of Light" is taken from the soundtrack of the game "Rime".
I often listen to the entire soundtrack on repeat to relax in this moment. Although I find the music quite sad, certainly in large part to the fact that it reminds me of the game in question, which I played at the time, and which ended in a very emotional way.
This 110% ( ) resonates to me but with another game, one of the 2 ones which the most "affected" me, first one was the old Phantasy Star (the 1) on Sega master system around the end of the eighties, and the second one is Anarchy Online (AO), one of the first MMO with an "atmosphere" i never experienced again in any other game. At this period, around 2000, i was what we can name a video game specialist, i opened and run a network game room + cybercafe in my little town, during 6y (1999 to 2005). Anarchy Online is "the" game i remember the most and i preferred.
Funny story is the following : as it's an MMO (Massive Multiplayer Online) we were playing in a french guild and I organised an IRL (In Real Life) meeting here south belgium, many of us met during one week-end, it was in february 2003. That was an incredible moment. We were almost 20 to gather and during 2 days all were adressing to each other using the name of each one's (main) character in the game. For me all were naming me "Kate", because my main character was named "Katiala" in the game, I was a soldier (among 12 choices). We had people coming from France & Suisse and of course Belgium, we all arranged in order that everybody had a place to sleep. Right, enough for the context :-)

Here's the theme from the game that i prefer, but many other are "near", very calm music, a bit ... enchantress, faery tales to me, but with a futuristic touch :

I often read the comments on the various youtube video about the musics in AO and it's stunning to see that many feel the same kind of strong feelings I still feel, like if the artist(s) who created these melodies succeeded to compose something that remains in people's mind (or hearts) more than a usual song does, i can't explain it.

Here's a 1h Anarchy Online music link for those who want to "test" to listen it, it's (very) calm background music.

I thank @Metrist for helping me find BW Stevenson. He reminds me of John Denver or in a strange way Glenn Campbell in his spirit. Not necessarily his voice but maybe in his sensitivity and and accoustic style. I found myself just sampling his songs and wow I have missed so many musical artists in different time periods. That is one reason I think this thread is so good.

This one does not remind me of John Denver or Glenn Campbell but I guess it shows that each musician has his own style.

Summer 78 by Yann Tiersen
from the movie "Good Bye Lenin!"

A beautiful piece of music

i discovered when watching the german movie "Good Bye Lenin!" the other day for the first time. It has an ever so slightly melancholic streak embedded within the beauty of the melody - like when you think of someone beloved from the distant past.

"On the Porch"
John Frizell
(movie soundtrack from "Dante's Peak")

Out of the dramatic volcano movie "Dante's Peak", there was one single song which stuck out, being rather "hidden in the background", almost forgotten out of everything else. Slow-sad-dream like resonance - a brief glimpse between two people sitting on the porch, in a slightly clumsy way trying to get in touch to one another, talking about their past relationships... "touchy subject", one said, I remember.

Isblomster
(Ice flowers)
by Anne Dorte Michelsen, 1991, danish

🇩🇰

Har vi mistet vore drømme
Og de milde hænders varme
For at kunne sove roligt
I hinandens kolde arme,
For at kulden skulle dække os
Og ingen af os se,
At der ligger to og græder
I hinandens hvide sne.

Har vi glemt hinandens øjne
Og hvad øjnene forjætter
For at kunne vandre saligt

Der gik vinter over ruden

🇸🇪

Har vi tappat våra drömmar
Och värmen från de milda händerna
För att kunna sova lugnt
I varandras kalla armar,
För att kylan ska täcka oss
Och ingen av oss ser,
Att det är två som ligger och gråter
I varandras vita snö.

🇬🇧

Have we lost our dreams
And the warmth of the gentle hands
To be able to sleep peacefully
In each other's cold arms,
For the cold to cover us
And none of us see,
That there are two lying and crying
In each other's white snow.

Have we forgotten each other's eyes?
And what the eyes promise
To be able to walk blissfully
Through the deep nights of fear,
So that nothing would scare us
And no one walks near us
And leave us and fear
The feverish glow of our eyes.

We have lost, lost to long for.
And we became dumb, dumb to call
In a language, a language that was not born
To lie to all of us.

Winter passed over the window
Where the white flowers shine
For no one to know
That we long when we freeze,
That we dream of the heat
From the hearts that are broken
And to the light from their eyes
Deep skies we have lost.

We have lost, lost to long for.
And we became dumb, dumb to call
In a language, a language that was not born
To lie to all of us.
And when darkness, darkness comes to us
Should it hide, hide our hands
It must not see us naked.
We're cold. And we're burning,
And we're burning.

One Day
Bjork, 1993

It is the kind of melody with Bjork's unique music/song style, injecting hope... from somewhere deep within, bubbling to the surface. Like an airplane lifting. And you stare out though the window.... your heart filled with a presence... that of a child's magic.

"Waking Up With Stories of You to Tell Nobody"
Ben Woods
Album "A collection of Thoughts", 2008

Interesting, I have never found his song on Youtube - ever - but somebody just put it up a month ago. I remember it was free to download back in 2008/09. It is a low-key song, which - again - has this element of sadness / melancholy buried within... Like the title already says

"Waking up with stories of you... to tell nobody".

Bitter sweet beautiful, kind of haunting.

Rue des Cascades [Portrait Version]
Yann Tiersen, 2019

The whole piece goes in two parts. First Intro. After 1 minute it sounds to me, like the main theme starts for real with piano (beautiful !). Voices come in at 04:00 - but in the end (05:10 onwards) is just WOW when the male singer gets company from the woman's voice, align and go higher (05:30) - is just sooooooo incredible beautiful (the embedded passion in their voices) Woah !

Yann Tiersen
is the guy, who made "Summer 78" from the movie "Good bye, Lenin!", and you recognize his music signature from the Movie "Amelié" with the beautiful song "Computine d'Un Autre Été"

Someone New
Eskobar, feat. Heather Nova
2006

"You gonna find someone new, I really hope you do, because I love you"
"Yes, we gave it a try - maybe for too long. Out of every sorrow - another day will dawn..."

Heather Nova has a beautiful voice with a touch of smoke yet light.
