At work I thought of the numerous firewalls we have that may be giving the error page. But now, since I am at home and has happened again, I thought to ask...

On any browser, when I go to the forum web site and now the FOTCM (paleochristianty) website I do not get a 404 page but the web page as a frown face and it says:

This webpage has a redirect loop

ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS

I apologize for not having a screen shot but I do wonder if anyone else has be getting this error page...

edit: It does not happen all the time and it does go away. Never the less, it still does occur intermittently...

I get it frequently when I use Chrome browser. I started deleting cached pages and images and found that it doesn't always help. After a few attempts, it usually goes on the forum page that I was wanting to load.

It rarely happens with Firefox and never with Opera so far and never when I use my android tablet, so I figured it must have started from one of those automatic updates.

I also noticed that, about the same time, whenever I edit a post on the forum, the edit version sometimes fails to load for a few minutes. Keep getting the un-edited version.

Anyway, I was still watching things to try and find the pattern that might indicate the cause, but I wasn't concerned enough to say anything just yet, so thanks for posting to let me know it's not just me. :)

It also happens to me every now and then. It doesn't really bother me since it usually goes away quite quickly, (by either refreshing the page, or opening the URL in a new window). It would be interesting to know why it happens though...

You have to occasionally cleaning with CClearner after it works better.
My son (he's store computer) advised me to do, I also had the same kind of problem

I haven't seen this happen before with any of the Cass sites so I'm not quite sure why this is happening to some of you. Strictly speaking, that error means that the server replied with a redirect to a different page when you requested the page, which then had another redirect when you requested that, which then probably redirected back to the original page--causing an infinite loop.

I'd try clearing your web browser cache and cookies and restarting the browser and see if that does it. It's also possible that you have an extension installed in your web browser that's doing something wonky, so if that didn't work, I'd try using Incognito mode or a Private browsing window (where extensions typically aren't enabled) and see if it still happens there. If it doesn't, then it could be an extension and you'll have to go through and disable extensions to figure out which one it is.

If the problem still happens after both of those (or happens in multiple browsers), then I'd check anti-virus or firewall software on your computer and try disabling it to see if that fixes the problem--if it does, there's your cause, and you'll have to adjust something with it to fix the issue.

It's possible that it's being caused by something wonky going on on your internet provider's end, but that's generally less likely and probably a bit tricky to deal with.

Thanks Foxx. I did notice a new message about where extensions are located that started occurring recently and this was indeed after a Chrome update, so I'll look into it for my case. I started falling behind in my computer and web knowledge when Widow$ XP was upgraded because went on to other things, so I appreciate the tip.

What Foxx said!

One thing that might help is to NOT include "www." at the beginning of the URLs. Some browsers like to add this automatically. That can cause lots of fun problems if the browser caches something incorrectly or an extension or something is doing something weird.

Also, for the forum, try using https://cassiopaea.org/forum

Actually, I have to partially take back what I said: I'm also seeing the redirect error on paleochristianity.org

Yep, weird things happen on the wonderful www. At work, I use explanations such as solar flares, squirrels playing on the telephone wires, the transmission going around the world many times just to get to a server down the hallway, EM disharges, get the fan further away from your computer, and yes, even the infamous spew GLOBAL WARMING :). But there comes a point where one must reach out to ask... "anyone else experience this?".

Turns out there was a server config issue... All should be well again!
