Remarque(s) concernant fr.sott.net

Hello.

Concerning this article :
http://fr.sott.net/article/26512-Francois-Hollande-recoit-Vladimir-Poutine-a-Paris-apres-de-nouvelles-frappes-russes-en-Syrie-Tremblez

In the third comment (blue box) there are two mistakes :
fr.SOTT said:
Qui sont ces "autres groupes terroristes" ? Peut-être que ceux ceux-là à qui l'Occident de réfère lorsqu'il fait allusion à des victimes innocentes ?
(ceux-là / se réfère)

In the fourth comment, there is another one :
fr.SOTT said:
Hollande a besoin du soutien de Madame Merkel. Ouf ! Ils doivent avoir bien peur... Vont-ils revenir sur leurs pas, faute de choix ? Ou vont-ils prepétrer le cirque propagandiste de ces derniers temps, suivant les instructions de Washington ?
(perpétrer)

In the fifth comment, another two :
fr.SOTT said:
Voyez-vous la grande contradiction ? D'un côté, l'Occident est parfaitement d'accord pour soutenir en armes et munitions des mercenaires criminels, contre un gouvernement élu par voie démocratique, et luttant contre l'État Islamique. Mais si la Russie ose aide qui que ce soit après le Coupe d'État en Ukraine, là on se fâche. Un très bon exemple illustrant à quel point l'Occident a deux poids, deux mesures.
(aider / Coup d'État)

These comments were written too quickly, maybe due to an emotion ?

Thanks so much Bastian.

The French team would definitively appreciate new volunteers, so if one of these days you want to join the team, let us know. ;)

Apologies, my bad. I was indeed writing in a bit of a hurry. Will be more careful from now on. Thanks Bastian!

Hello.

In the editor's comment for this article :
http://fr.sott.net/article/26617-Meurtre-du-petit-Lucas-en-Meurthe-et-Moselle-le-meurtrier-souffre-de-troubles-psychiatriques

Dans notree société gouvernée par des psychopathes, rien d'étonnant à ce que la « justice » protège les criminels ou leur trouve des circonstances atténuantes (troubles mentaux, enfance « difficile », isolation sociale...).
There's a typo : notre(e)
And there is a (nowadays common) mistake : isolation instead of isolement.
In French, isolation means insulation (thermic, phonic or electrical), while isolement means isolation (false-friend !).

Hello, it's me again !

A few typos in this article :
http://fr.sott.net/article/26624-L-opposition-entre-les-Etats-Unis-et-la-Russie-reflet-d-une-division-fondamentale

Le subhhumain (psychopathe) accuse les autres de ce dont il se rend lui-même coupable.
(subhumain)
Les victimes des États-Unis se comptent pas millions
(par)
Par example, La Russie a livré plus de 10 000 tonnes d'aide dans l'est de l'Ukraine
(exemple)

BTW, the title of this article :
http://fr.sott.net/article/26631-Un-monde-insane-ou-la-paix-est-la-guerre
includes "insane", which is, according to the Wiktionary...
_https://fr.wiktionary.org/wiki/insane#Fran.C3.A7ais
...indeed a French word (and of course an English one), but frankly it's the first time in my life that I read (or hear) it - and I'm a native speaker - so I recommend to replace it by "dément" which is a lot more common in French.

Thanks for your attention !

PS : if there is no real interest in reporter such typos, please tell me. ;)

Hi Bastian,

Thanks so much. It has been modified.

All right, "roger" !

In this article :
http://fr.sott.net/article/26636-La-Syrie-et-la-Russie-sont-elles-plus-democratiques-que-les-Etats-Unis

there is a funny (copy-paste) mistake :
fr.SOTT said:
Maintenant, traversons l'océan Atlantique et regardons les élections russes de 2012 :

► 65,25% de la population sont allés voter

► dont 63,64% ont voté pour Obama

► donc, 41,5% des électeurs russes ont en fait voté pour Poutine
I doubt Obama was running the election in Russia in 2012, and I doubt even more that two thirds of Russian voters would have voted for him ! ;)

How fluent would I need to be in order to help out?

Well, pretty fluent, able to read and understand news articles. Other than that, we can help you out. There is currently a very good SOTT focus written by the French team, which we would like to have translated into English for the main SOTT page. That may be easier if your French is not SO good. Just some ideas. How good is your French? And thanks for volunteering, no matter what. :)

Well I took french for maybe 5 years in school but that was at least 7 years ago. So I've started going though a neat little course on __duolingo.com this last week to re-familiarize myself and become more fluent. I would say that it is easier for me to read and write but I am in no way 'fluent' I guess. I kind of figured this would be a good way to have more of an immersive approach to help with learning while contributing what little I can to fr.sott.net.

I wasn't sure which article you were referring to so I picked the most recent one that didn't have an author from english SOTT to give an example so that you guys could gauge whether or not I should keep practicing and come back later or start translating now.

Link: http://fr.sott.net/article/26624-L-opposition-entre-les-Etats-Unis-et-la-Russie-reflet-d-une-division-fondamentale

L'opposition entre les États-Unis et la Russie - reflet d'une division fondamentale
Opposition between the United States and Russia - reveals a fundamental division

One may wonder why the western leaders hold such hatred towards Russia and its president Vladimir Putin. What is the underlying motive, aside from the fallacious arguments that - Putin is a dictator, Putin threatens world peace, Putin is a megalomaniac, and very recently the Cold War propagandistic overtones that supersedes geopolitical motivations (the US viewing Russia as an obstacle to its global hegemony)? Finally, two worldviews are in opposition. The worldview from a normal human being’s perspective versus that of the psychopath’s.

I think I understand the differences in how sentences are constructed (i.e. noun-adjective inversion, conjugation, past-tense etc.) but I will probably have some trouble with translating idioms that do not have a direct translation. Also my french vocabulary isn't the greatest but I do plan on using google translate A LOT....at least until my brain begins to retain some of the words without having to think about it.

That looks pretty good, trendsetter! I would only modify it slightly:

One may wonder why the Western leaders hold such hatred towards Russia and its president Vladimir Putin. What is the underlying motive, aside from the fallacious arguments that Putin is a dictator, Putin threatens world peace, Putin is a megalomaniac, and very recently the Cold War propagandistic overtones that supersedes geopolitical motivations (the US viewing Russia as an obstacle to its global hegemony)? In the end/Truth be told/At the end of the day, two worldviews are in opposition: The worldview from a normal human being’s perspective versus that of the psychopath’s.

(Au final is different from finalement)

But don't worry. One of us would check for translation errors, and then a native English speaker would have to do a final proofreading. That's the usual procedure.

Would you like to continue? That is indeed the article I had in mind. And I agree with you, it should help you improve your French by a lot!

Dear all,

The following article http://fr.sott.net/article/26690-L-age-glaciaire-quis-en-vient got a wrong date, or, the one who posted it made a timeshift in the future :P
Correct date should be, as checked on the original article, the 31/10/2015.

Cheers

Thanks dredger.

It has been corrected and your post moved to the appropriated section for that.

Cheers
