Pontypool..

I saw this movie a couple of weeks ago not because of its genre as a horror movie but because of the theory of the (language is a form of virus). The movie is one of a kind, highly inventive, creative with an original idea and very interesting watch, most people compare it to another zombie movie while it is not.

From wiki

At Rue Morgue's 2008 Festival of Fear expo, director Bruce McDonald stressed the victims of the virus detailed in the film were not zombies, calling them "Conversationalists". He described the stages of the disease:

There are three stages to this virus.

- The first stage is you might begin to repeat a word. Something gets stuck. And usually it's words that are terms of endearment like sweetheart or honey.

- The second stage is your language becomes scrambled and you can't express yourself properly.

- The third stage you become so distraught at your condition that the only way out situation you feel, as an infected person, is to try and chew your way through the mouth of another person.

Some how reminds me of Richard Dawkins memetics and his excellent book the selfish gene.

Hi Qbone,

Considering this movie recommendation and your previous one of 'antichrist' - I'm curious about why you seem to spend such time and energy (and enjoyment) with such dark, disturbing experiences/films?

It is part of my daily work; here in Norway we don’t dub the movies. We print subtext in Norwegian on first layer of the 35 mm film instead.

Now, as a specialist of the text machines I have to always follow the whole movie form start to end for text, sequences and synchronisation which means I have to follow almost 270-350 film titles a year (good or bad) (funny or sad) (dark or bright) etc.

Sometimes in between I get caught in some (special movie) which in turn giving me an opportunity to think deeper than usual or swing in other frequencies and tune to it.

I am in this business for almost 23 years, so to me most motion pictures are not simply a motion pictures, it is source of the inspirations too. Like a good book! Then after a while you don’t see the movie anymore but instead start focusing on script writers, their emotions and their created characters and how they reflect the writer’s own personalities, own Sub-consciousness, their private moments (with their creations).

Having mentioned this, I still remember an excellent movie back in 1994 called (in the mouth of madness). Written by Michael de Luca and directed by John Carpenter gave me the prime idea about the relationship between a writer and his/her source of inspirations.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_the_Mouth_of_Madness (read the plot please) and you’ll know what I meant characters, emotions, personal inspirations and so on.

By the way, thanks for your curiosity….
