I just saw this the past weekend at a midnight showing in the Rosedale AMC in Minneapolis. So far I think it's only showing in select theaters (maybe a dozen or so) in the US.

I'd have to say that the movie is truly frightening although the experienced reader of high strangeness accounts will pick up on the excessive nature of some scenes and especially the ending. Like many other people are saying, this one does remind one of the Blair Witch Project in many ways. It is a "mockumentary", so one is given the impression that the filming is all done through the lens of this couple's digital video recorder.

There was one scene in the movie with a Ouija board where they supposedly leave the camera on the board after they left the house for some reason. Well, the planchet started to move all by itself, criss-crossing the board and then a fire spontaneously broke out on top of the board! A little bit over the top, me thinks! I'm sure this will continue to further the misinformation about Ouija boards in general, sadly.

Ah yes, I saw the trailer for this movie the other night. And in the trailer it shows how they put cameras in the theater to catch the frightened expressions of the people and their jumping at the scary scenes and stuff. When I saw that, I immediately thought of how 4D STS 'feed' on negative thoughts and emotions including fear and how that theater looked to be 'prime' feeding ground for 4D STS. I tend to think that about all "scary movies" that are just there to scare you and not make you think, movies like SAW. I never saw that movie, and can't imagine why anyone would like it but there are like 5 or 6 SAW movies now and there is one coming out. So again, I think of prime feeding environment for 4D STS.

Just my current hypothesis on the subject of "scary movies". :P

I tend to agree with you about them wanting to shed negative light on Ouija borads. It would make sense if one of their greatest 'foes' uses one ;)

I just seen the movie myself and I totaly agree with you deedlet.
The movie totaly frighten me to the point I could not sleep.
And I think it is just a way to feed on our energy. I do believe
some events in the movie are true, but parts like the end I
believe is fake. It was one part at the end when her face
became monster like. And the camera just shut off completly
why would the camera shut off unless she hit it.

My understanding is that the whole movie was fake. In other words, the parts you thought were true were just parts where the producers really did their homework. You're right, the ending was obviously fake. They might have convinced me things shown in the film were true up until that point had they not ended it in such a way.

It was all faked, because it was just a movie. A dear friend of mine in Burbank CA mentioned this one to me, because the female lead is played by one of her colleagues, and she wanted me to mention it to other folks to show support. ;) I'm not going to see it for the reasons you've mentioned, its a 'fear feast'. And while it does include recreations of what some kinds of phenomena are like, its geared for feeding and I can't support that. (Part of making the paranormal so fear inducing is to keep people from examining it too close. If you do you're a nutter or a con man, or the worst kind of fool, and the ridicule is nasty.)

Its the same reason I wont watch movies like "Saw" and "Hostel". Its what my Hubby calls "torture porn". Yuck.

Torture porn is an apt description. Slasher...and most graphic horror films made within the past 40 years...disgust and alarm me. Always wondered what desensitizing affect these movies have on ones brain. All that sadistic violence is negative dissociation to the max, OSIT

I know persons working in the film industry who admire the technical aspects of a Slasher project, along with the manipulative high of inducing levels of fear in the audience. Directors like Wes Craven have reputations within the film industry for being creepy on and off the set. Just an act? Maybe. Yet think of the kind of twisted mind that comes up with this stuff.

As Halloween approaches, I admit to having a nostalgic fondness for the old Universal Horror films from the 1930s and 40s. Left over programming from watching all those Monster Movie Matinees as a kid. [(0);]

I will confess a love for cheesy Monster movies. ;) Loved the oldies, but my favorites have to be the Abbott and Costello flicks with Dracula, the Wolfman, and Frankenstein. Kinda off topic, I just wanted to add my .02 cents on the nostalgia end. :D

Yeah, I had the same impression watching the trailer and while one of my I's interest was peaked, the higher-Is decided it was best to avoid being food for 4D STS as much as possible, thus my aversion to seeing this film.

I third that one. Why not add a little disinfo to the feeding frenzy eh?

For what its worth celtic, I heard there was an article in the local paper here in the city that said most people were having the same reaction as yourself. Sleepless nights. IMO people are just paying to feed 4D. I can't really see any entertainment in these types of movies.

I can't believe you brought that one up!! :lol2: I haven't thought about those movies in years!! Its kinda nice to reminisce about those days.

Edit: forgot to label quote.

I think I agree with you Gimpy here is a article from times on it.
http://www.time.com/time/arts/article/0,8599,1929648,00.html

Katie and Micah are said to be actors in this article.
It was Shot three years ago by Peli, an Israeli-born
video maker, for $11,000 a week in his house.
I am guessing this movie is a fake they had
me fooled.

I didn't watch this movie (low on money myself here) as my gut feelings told me after watching the trailer that it's similar to the movie, Blair Witch Project, which got me all worked up and scared, and then I've realized it was a hoax. I didn't want to relive it again.
