Monster mummies of Japan

Tigersoap

The Living Force
Lurking the halls of Buddhist temples and museums across Japan are a host of monster mummies — the preserved remains of demons, mermaids, kappa, tengu, raijū, and even human monks. Here are a few remarkable specimens for the adventurous and brave at heart.

Interesting overview of mummified creatures from Japan, some are man-made (?), the origin of others are uncertain, it certainly looks like a great gallery of possible windowfallers or not.

Eww! This is scary, especially the self-mommified monks!
Interresting that these possibly window falling mermaids are very different from our romanticised image of them :D
If one have to see a mermaid one day : run run run!

The photo of the Japanese demon infant mummy looks a lot like Fate magazine's article of a preserved stillborn baby, nick-named the "Chicken Man". Laura asked the C's about it, and was told that the stillborn was the product of Reptoid rape. Here's the link, with pic: http://www.cassiopaea.org/cass/monster.htm

Yeah, I thought so too. Maybe some of these are "the real deal"?

Jeez, ....that was probably one of the wierdest displays I've ever seen. Gave me the creeps. I found the section on the living mummies particularly odd even though they weren't technically monsters. Is this really a way to reach nirvana?? It seems a bit on the extreme side to me. Talk about your intentional suffering!

I guess so... providing "Nirvana" means "becoming a dream in the past." Strikes me as a very STS sort of thing - gives nothing to anybody.

Life is religion.
Q: (L) What does that mean?
A: Life experiences reflect how one interacts with God. Those who are asleep are those of little faith in terms of their interaction with the creation. Some people think that the world exists for them to overcome or ignore or shut out. For those individuals, the worlds will cease. They will become exactly what they give to life. They will become merely a dream in the "past." People who pay strict attention to objective reality right and left, become the reality of the "Future."
