This happened in 2020 and it is not known for sure if it was narcos, probably not, they do not forgive... however, it could have been a security group or a landowner guarding his land. They were not travelin in Cancun.
The terrifying moment two tourists from the US were intercepted by an armed commando in Mexico.
The travelers were passing through dangerous terrain, photographing birds, when an armed group stopped them; after the scare, to the point of tears, they tried to calm down with hugs and pats on the back.
Unfortunately, language is a barrier to communication, and the armed men could not tell the frightened tourists that everything is fine, and that they just wanted to know the reason why they entered their land.
The recording was taken on a road in Tabasco, in southern Mexico, according to the media La Vanguardia. The events allegedly occurred in February 2020, and the protagonists are Aaron, at the wheel, and his co-driver, Logan.
Through comments on YouTube, users assured that they were not members of a Mexican cartel, but rather that they were the owners of the land to which they gained access.

There must be something in the water in Tabasco. This is the location in the 1930’s where the local left wing govt tried to stomp out and completely eradicate Catholicism. Just stop and think about that. Mexico is one of the most Catholic countries anywhere. Grahame Greene’s excellent but depressing novel The Power and the Glory tells the story. I can’t quite fit my head around it but the extreme control of a group that is out of touch with common human needs seems to be the dysfunctional theme. (IDK…)

Just came across the below Tweet, kind of known information, but nonetheless relevant still today. Citi Bank laundered millions for the Salinas family back in the 90's, for which Wikipedia tells us:
This last highlighted part sounds just like a scheme, a technicality really. After it's been known and confirmed that the Presidents from the late 60's and the 70's were all CIA assets, it likely that also Salinas was one. Specially after considering the rigged elections of 1988 that brought him to the Presidency while Bush Sr. was also being elected President in the US.
And so this guy reminds us that Citi could be (even likely) a CIA front.

I ask the Mexican members of the forum if they know of any progress in the matter of accusing the members of the Prian (PRI. PAN. PRD. Parties) of Treason against the Homeland and other people who intend to hand over the wealth of Mexico, its sovereignty to the governments of the United States and Spain.
I have not heard of any progress in this matter but on the contrary, this type of miserable people do not stop day after day, day and night from obsessively insulting not only the Mexican people with their pretensions but also President Lopez Obrador personally.
Their irritating foreignness is so sick and ridiculous that one wonders why they don't go live in Spain or the United States. Although they already have legal Deportation very well earned when the Mexican government decides to enforce a well-deserved sanction against them.
They are so ignorant that they confuse freedom of expression with an obsessive stateless desire and demonstrate with their ideas and actions how little they love themselves.
I am waiting for some information because I have not heard of any progress on this matter that if any sanction were applied it would put an end to this group and their show that shows signs of great desperation and inexplicable perversity and no love for their country.

There is no progress but neither is there any official complaint. What does seem to be advancing is what the President calls a Technical Coup d'Etat which basically consists of the annulment of a presidential election from the Federal Judicial Power, taking advantage not only of the legal loopholes in the electoral law but also that for AMLO everything he says will be used against him and against the leading candidate and sure first woman president of the republic.
The above reminds me of the strategy applied to Trump when he was systematically silenced from social networks such as Twitter and Facebook.
Recently YouTube took down from the platform an interview that journalist Inna Afinogenova did with AMLO. The opposition to the government took advantage of that to denigrate the Mexico-Russia relationship because for them Russia is the evil entity that without right "invaded" Ukraine.
Now it is possible that Elon Musk would not allow that against a president, but there is still the mass media such as Televisa and TvAzteca that have entered the dirty war against the president. The owner of TvAzteca, Ricardo Salinas Pluega in fact, has a sung lawsuit with the government and uses his TV station to make political blows and as revenge since AMLO's administration dared to charge him the millions he owed in taxes to the Federation.
