Fantasy trip: to see Iran before it is too late. Specifically, I'd like to see the beautiful buildings and Islamic arts of the Isfahan area. Everyone I have ever met from there has been intelligent and kind.
Anyone been there? Is it safe to travel there? I welcome any advice on this.

I haven't visited Isfahan myself, but I've heard it's a very nice place to visit. I'd say it's safe to travel there. If you go, it may be useful to look for tips on the internet before you go. Iranians are generally kind towards tourists, especially if they're European/American, as far as I know. If you're a woman, you should wear a headscarf, silly I know - I hope it will change at some point.
