Was gibt es beim Kauf von destilliertem Wasser zu beachten, falls man noch keinen Wasserfilter hat?

What should be considered when buying distilled water, if you haven't acquired a water filter yet?

Hi forget-me-not eventually have a look at this topic: Water

What may happen that the water tastes like perfume if it is standing next to washing powder etc.

I know it's not quite what you asked for (follow the link above for more information), but also check your region's uranium levels in tap water. There are some areas in Germany which are severely affected by it (3% or so).

 Heheh, thanx for the link.

Uranium levels, hmm. I'm gonna check those levels. Thanks for mentioning it, Sirius.

Most water companies (or all; don't know) regularly release test results and publish them on the Internet.

I just wanted to mention that I have a home water distiller, bought here:

_http://www.perfektegesundheit.de/shop/product_info.php?products_id=1707

It produces incredibly good water!

However, I'm planning to invest in a berkey filter system, mainly because the distiller uses a lot of electricity and the berkey still works in emergency situations.

Does anybody know where to get a berkey/berkefield system in Germany? The only source I was able to find is this one - is this the real deal?

Thanks and sorry for hijacking!

Unfortunately no. And it seems to be the cheapest site I could find so far. Eventually it must be considered what these filters about and what they can filter and what not.

http://www.startfit.com/de/outdoor-wasserfilter/12-british-berkefeld-edelstahl.html Hmm, I wonder how pure the berkefield water is. Does anyone possess one and has ran a purity test on it? It would also be much cheaper than the electric destiller. But filtered water isn`t as pure as destilled water, so this seems to be rather an additional solution for the worst case. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm also wondering... As a side note, I stopped using distilled water for the moment, since our electricity costs really exploded since we ran the distiller 2-3 times a day. For the time being, I just drink tap water - we live now in a more rural area where the water seems to be pretty good, although it contains a lot of chalk (lime?).

So, still looking for a good solution...

Also looking out for a good solution. Living in a volcanic region, water seems to be more impure by comparison.

Fwiw, the british berkefeld filter has to be replaced every several months (4-6) where the Berkey filter is supposed to be used for several years (up to 10 years). As far as I checked it out there is no really cheap way of getting clean water, beside buying distilled water in a supermarket could be a solution.

For the Go berkey filter I payed all in all (with import costs 19% on the product + 19% on the postage) ~170 Euro. It is sufficient for one person but for two it could get critical.

I just finished the water-thread :grad: Thank you Gawan for the info. So "black berkey water filter" vs "distilling machine without plastic components". It would be best to have both I guess. Is there an electric distiller you would recommend besides the one Luc has recommanded?

http://www.perfektegesundheit.de/shop/product_info.php?products_id=170 maybe this one would be a good solution.

Adding quartz crystals to restore the original, flexible structure of water might also be helpful. In that case I should consider which quartz crystal fits my star sign. This is quite an interesting approach. Isn't that some sort of alchemy?

EDIT: added Lucs recommendation

No, it is some sort of esoteric practice.
If you know some tech. where you are sure that it (a) veritably works and is proven, (b) is harmless and and helpful at the same time, and (c) still affordable, then it is worth a consideration. Otherwise it is a waste of time and money in > 99.9% of all cases.

:/ I'm worried about the electricity costs. Can anyone estimate how the costs increase if the distiller is running only once a day? In my case it would be for just one person. The alternative would be the berkey filter that is much cheaper and can be taken along. I know the filtered water isn't that pure but it's still much healthier than ordinary tab water, so this seems to be a compromise between health and long term costs.

The waterwise destiller uses 800W/h, but as I checked it with a meter it was about 870 W/h if I remember it correctly. And a full run takes about 4-6 hrs (heating the water till the boiling point, plus an effectiveness of 0.8 l/h with a capacity of 3.7 l). So yeah it can be if you just use it for yourself about 10-15 Euros per month only for the distiller.
