This struck me hard. I like Redstar and enjoyed his posts.

I truthfully must explain, as this thread seems perfect for it, but the most recent Cs session really left me alienated. I almost closed my account as a knee jerk reaction as a result. (Those reactions are dangerous.)

The main factor I was alienated was there seemed to be, what I felt, a certain reverence over the internet as a seating mechanism for STO growth and this is something I felt is very prominent. The most recent reading brushed the internet off as a tool for confusion in what appeared to me to be a very passive and cynical matter - it felt very contradictory to past readings IMHO.

I always thought and felt we collectively surpass these attacks of confusion by discerning the attacks/current events in places like this forum and that this confusion is contrarily bringing us closer together and fulfilling favorable objectives.

It certainly threw me for a loop! Yet not enough to discourage my understanding of the work, not enough to abruptly quit like I initially wanted to. Maybe it's evident that the STO factor of the internet can't be reached as the online society is at a point of no return...

At any rate, I hope you return Redstar, your 'Being' post was top notch.

Hello zin, I couldn't see in what part of the comment that the internet was "brushed off"
A: We once told you that your computers would overpower you. Thus neither question is precisely to the point. Internet was initially manifested for practical purposes, then other applications were developed. It could be said that the "experiment" in consciousness appeared in reaction to more positive uses. At present the internet is more a source of confusion and propaganda than anything else. Thus the opening statement is fulfilled.
It's mainly used for confusion and propaganda but it is also used for good. The forum for example and SOTT wouldn't exist without it and neither would the benefits of networking with other likeminded people across the world.
Interesting that you found it "passive and cynical", I didn't get that at all from it. To me it seemed logical and it made sense. Living in an STS world surrounded by psychopaths and chaos it makes sense that the internet and what it's used for will reflect the mentality of the majority.
I'm glad you didn't quit, the more people who at least try to use the internet for good, the brighter our light shines.

His ideas Redstar, on the subject being and not being, I found very interesting, and had been thinking a bit about this topic, it is a pity it has taken this decision, the best to you redstar.:flowers:

Hi Zin

I think the phrase "Don't throw the baby out with the bath water" is relevant, here.

The internet is a two-edged sword and it's about how we use it. For those who are happy in our world, the way they use the internet will help to keep them asleep and distracted. But for the members of this forum, sott readers and other sites that try to get the truth out, it's a massively helpful tool. Try not to confuse the internet with the concept of networking. Networking is a thing in itself, and is beneficial for people with the same goals, whether it's done online or in real life.

When the internet eventually goes down, networking will still be just as important.

The main factor I was alienated was there seemed to be, what I felt, a certain reverence over the internet as a seating mechanism for STO growth and this is something I felt is very prominent.

...

I always thought and felt we collectively surpass these attacks of confusion by discerning the attacks/current events in places like this forum and that this confusion is contrarily bringing us closer together and fulfilling favorable objectives.

I think the sentiments in these two statements are very true for the members here.

For what it's worth, I'm glad you didn't delete your account.

A huge part of my self comes out through these sessions. I'm not entirely sure why I found this to be cynical. It could be because I feel like the Internet is a baby and we of all people should protect it because we know it's the right thing to do. It's also huge part of my life, (I met my wife here, I get work here, I learned so much here, i regularly meet new friends here, I defend common sense in comment boards, etc!) I love the place, and all it's grand confusion because it gives us a chance to communicate! All this info... I some how felt that the Cs had this same zest for this behemoth that I believe is helping us evolve and an exponential rate!

In my city, it's become common place for a stranger to be able to voice disdain toward the obscene damage we are committing against our home. There is a real effort in wanting a better place for tomorrow. Maybe i'm being far too optimistic in thinking this is only as a result of the internet. After re-reading the session a few times, I don't feel the same way, but it was certainly troublesome that I felt that way innitially and then seen Redstar take his leave.

Thanks for your responses, they help immensely.

And the analogy "don't throw the baby out with the bathwater" goes with keeping ones heart placed in all that has been built here and not taking off/closing accounts anytime something confusing occurs.

Cheers

Well said zin. I understand where you are coming from - especially your personal experiences to date that mark out your life. You write from a powerful place of personal experience. But all the same we must always remember that we live in an STS world. No matter how much we may hope and long for a better future, one in which the internet increases our ability to connect with each other across continents and great divides at the touch of a button; how it brought us all to this forum, a unique opportunity the like of which has possibly never occurred before in the known history of humanity; how it enables us to access and take part in the kind of expansive knowledge that only small groups in isolated pockets could possibly have undertaken before, (and even then in forms that most likely lacked so much of the corroboration and feedback that we here are party to ). Even given all this, we must always remember that the internet is also home to extreme, violent consciousness altering porn that on a mass scale is corrupting the hearts and minds of countless hundreds of millions; home to unprecedented levels of vindictiveness and psychological cruelty; home to psychopaths and cult leaders who pray on the unwary and ill-informed; home to extreme ignorance and DISINFO; home to ever more vigilant watchers who track and store all that we do; home to those who would see you and me fall into total darkness. It is thus home to all that is good and all that is bad in our world.

I remember the days before the internet - so hard now but they did exist - when, yes we knew so much less, were so much blinder, were so much more alone - yet we were also freer in other ways. We talked face to face more, we spent more times out doors than we do now, we sought in the flesh social company more, we talked to each other directly more, or so I remember, we were less self-referential and ‘plugged in’. I do sometimes wonder about how the very means by which I have managed to lift what shackles I have from my mind have in other ways enslaved me (right down to my ‘daily fix’ on the forum or SOTT). How I have become dependent on it for my very state of being. Machine meets machine; the first meaningful step towards a truly cyborg state of being.

I am not wishing the internet away - far from it. I, like you, could never have found my way here without it. But I know I have been changed by it, changed utterly: still a terrible beauty is born!

I too am glad you did not follow redstar and click delete. I look forward to reading more of your thoughts in the future. Thank you internet!

FWIW

The Internet is a tool which empowers. But what do people do when empowered? They polarize further in whatever direction they are going. For many, many, that means submerging themselves even deeper in lies, cheap entertainment, shutting out reality, etc.

I don't often post in the Newbies section, but should do so more often to welcome others. After all, I was made feel very welcome myself when first arriving here. But this one caught my eye.

While I am sorry to see Redstar go, he must have his reasons and his own path to follow. One positive everyone involved with this forum receives is this - no matter if you are absent for a week, a month or decide to leave permanently, everything you learn here, you take with you. And that knowledge can be used every day.

Besides, the door here is still open and he can return anytime should he choose to. All the best Redstar.

Hi zin,

I agree with Psalehesost. I am grateful, at my age, for the internet as a tool for learning and networking.

However, if I had 'today's internet' in the early '80s when I was a lonely, hormonal teenager... I would probably have been side-tracked with the ease of access to all the distracting entrancements. Today most kids are being flooded and vectored by the PTB with material they are not mature enough, nor knowledgeable enough to stay clear of and handle. Keeping them 'asleep' and 'dumb downed'; exactly how they want them.

I notice that my reply to redstar seems to have been 'thrown out with the bathwater'.

Can an administrator delete my account, Thanks

Have a good day :)

It's interesting, because we just talked about something similar at work today. The discussion started because someone had discovered an article about Baby-Boomers, Generation X and Y and Millennium kids and their respective attitude towards Internet and digital stuff in general.

I mean everyone over 40 had a solid analog foundation with the Internet hitting them later in their lives, everyone under 35 had this stuff influencing their lives much earlier. I personally wouldn't care if the C's would criticize the Internet (which they didn't in that particular session I found), because I know its not the non-plus-ultra for me and will never be, whereas someone around 30 might react a little bit more sensitive to the issue.

Interesting how fast mankind became hooked - kind of like a second temptation and fall - there must be reason why "Apple" has the name it has :halo:

Hi blue bell, I see in your foot note you write

""All there is, is Lessons."

Learning is Fun :) "

That means your lesson is over?
Anyway you can delete your account your self, by going to your forum profile and hit "delete the account".
I hope you enjoyed the time here!

Good bye.

Things are different, people still notice things, yet notice them in uncommon and different ways:
