cartoon: New World Dictionary: Decidership

Yeah, I don't understand the veto process. If congress/parliament approved a bill, as they are the "representatives of the people" how come the executive branch (president/prime minister) have the right to stop that law? If congress votes to end war, the president can veto it. Sure, they say its checks and balances, but in history and in the present, it hasn't been too helpful.

It seems like the legislative branch was designed to be a false hope for the people. Same for the judicial branch, which has members nominated by THE PRESIDENT!
