Back to France this Summer

Last summer I stayed for a few weeks in Provence. This Summer, I think I'm going to be going back to France.

Still processing exactly where, but it's looking like perhaps Bordeaux / Dordogne / Toulouse....
There's a nice little place for rent in Dordogne... Anyway, should have it figured out in the next week, or so.

Laura, or any of you who are , or who've been in the area, if you happen to see this, do you have any really interesting places to explore---or where I might just go, sit and beeeee?

Can't wait.
 
When I visited France, one of the coolest places I got to see was the tower and church at Mauvezin. If you go by there, I highly recommend a visit.

When I was in France about 10 months ago, I went to Auch Cathedral, which Laura has written about, the cover of Laura's book SHOTW has images of the windows and marble sculptures, which are absolutely fantastic. The choir stalls are incredible.

Auch is about 80K west of Toulouse, there is a train service from Toulouse, which is a very pleasant trip, the town centre is about 15 minute walk then an interesting hike to the top of the hill. worth every step.

Thanks, Lindenlea! Yes, Auch Cathedral. I've read Laura's pieces on it, as well as what she mentions in the book. I've already got that on the list!
 
I'd recommend seeing the fortified town of Carcassonne - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carcassonne - the castle town is really beautiful. Of course you can't go there without taking the tour of the actual castle. All I can say about that is it's an experience I'll never forget.
