1920Warren Harding with his plea for a "return to normalcy" after the war is elected president on November 2nd. Calvin Coolidge of Massachusetts is elected vice president. President Wilson is unable to participate in the campaign. Harding and Coolidge defeat James M. Cox of Ohio and Franklin D. Roosevelt of New York in a landslide. Woodrow Wilson is awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on December 10th for his work in founding the League of Nations and seeking a fair peace agreement.
